Artist Statement:

Using images from my family’s history allows me to explore narrative conventions in visual art. The process of researching years of familial memorabilia helps me to understand the traditions of recording and passing down. It is through this I have found the unexpected transference of a nostalgia for people I have never known.

Applying inspiration from my family’s Czech folk art traditions of needlework and quilting, I gained an understanding of the women of my past generations. Through this understanding, I utilize this knowledge to create artworks that explore my heritage, the traditions, and the loss of through immigration and the passage of time.
